"Laugh, Pagliaccio, and everyone will applaud" - but the laughter turns to tears as the clown becomes entangled in a fatal love traingle. Leoncavallo's much loved short opera of romance, jealousy and revenge among a group of travelling players has been a favourite of audiences since its premiere in 1892. Over one hundred years later, it still breathes the air of real life with its violence, romance and theatricality.

Candlelight Opera's beautifully costumed new production of this favourite one act opera perfectly captures the tragedy of the private lives of Leoncavallo's characters which is brilliantly offset by the down to earth humour of the Commedia performance of the final scene. Thrill to the soaring melody of one of the great operatic duets of all time between Silvio and Nedda and empathise with Pagliaccio as he tries to suppress personal agony to put on the clown's smiling face in one of opera's finest tenor arias 'Vesti la guibba'.

Betrayal, jealousy and revenge - the perfect partners for an evening of irresistible opera entertainment.
