Candlelight Opera are pleased to present a new, fully staged production for the 2009 season. Based on the play by Sardou, originally written for the famous actress Sarah Bernhardt, Puccini's Tosca tells a tragic and passionate tale of love, lust, politics and art played against the panoramic politics of Napoleon's Rome.

Candlelight Opera's glamorous and beautifully costumed production promises to transport you to Rome in 1800 as Napoleon was tightening his grip on Europe. Floria Tosca, a prima donna, pursued by Scarpia, Chief of the Roman Police, finds herself caught in a complex web of deception in which she tries, and fails, to save her love the painter and liberal patriot Cavaradossi.

Glorious, luscious music and a trilling, unexpected storyline have made Puccini's Tosca a favourite ever since its first performance 100 years ago. The magnificent settings of these historic houses provide the perfect setting for the performance, where audience can enjoy being physically close to the performers as this dramatic and thrilling story unfolds.
